OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://41.138.51.72/SOURCES/.SoilGrids/.Africa/.GYGA_Results_1km/.Aggregated_overERZD/.root_zone/dods')
