OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://41.138.51.72/SOURCES/.WORLDBATH/bath/%5BX+%5Dmaxover/%5BY+%5Daverage/ngridtable/1+index/.bath/dods')
