OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://41.138.51.72/SOURCES/.WORLDBATH/bath/X+partial/%5BX+%5Dmaxover/Y+exch/2+index/.bath/dods')
